Argentina is famous for tango but also for great steaks. Their meat is so tender it makes every man’s heart pound faster. If you really want to challenge your heart, pay la Cabrera with a visit!
In July 2007 I met James and Patrick, two world travelers from England. We skied for about a week in beautiful Portillo in Chile before heading to Mendoza in Argentina. We could get along pretty well and therefore we decided to travel together to Bariloche to get the skilegs going one more time. In the meantime we had some great steaks and good night outs. After Bariloche we went to the capital and we were looking for a real night out if you understand what I mean. the night had to start with a special diner, not just a regular one even the regular ones in Argentina compare to special ones back home. We asked around and people recommended us la Cabrera, a fine steakhouse in Palermo. Palermo is a trendy district in the center of Buenos Aires filled with great restaurants.
We arrived at la Cabrera around 11 pm and witnessed a huge line. Yes, people eat late in this country but this exceeded all our expectations. We finally got our table around midnight and ordered the biggest steak we had ever seen. Service was tremendous. Waiters in Argentina seem to really understand their job in general and la Cabrera was no exception.
Three big guys were struggling to finish their meal in the beginning of the night. Not because the food was not tasty, no because it was simply to much. Did I say that? Finally our pride took over and we gave it everything to empty the plates. We managed so but had to pay the price afterwards. In the bar next door we ordered a pint but couldn’t take a sip for at least an hour. we had no regrets though, we just had the best steak of our lives!
La Cabrera is not cheap for Argentine standards but it’s worth every penny. Enjoy the food, their service and the atmosphere!
